Welcome

We are reading Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett.  Each week, I will post a new discussion question based on what we have read.  I invite parents to read along with their child and contribute to our post.  I have a class set of books to use during class but I encourage you to purchase the book to use at home.

What is a blog?  A blog can be an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog.  In our case, we are using it to discuss our book.

I will add my students to the site and parents, if you wish to join us, email me at audrey.fine@gmail.com and I will include you in our blog.

Blogs are in chronological ordering, meaning, the newest post will be at the top and older ones will be below.

How do you think you will enjoy this way of discussing books???

I think I would like posting it on the computer because my hands would be hurting with a pencil. It feels more comfortable using the computer, like now I feel better. This is why I like posting stuff on the computer.

The way I’ll enjoy discussing books is because I love computers and typing is better than writing. Talking about books is fun because some are nonfiction and some are fiction. I really like fiction and nonfiction books because I like fiction books with really pretty pictures and I like nonfiction books because I like to see animal and science pictures of things. So you can guess I kind of, really love books. That’s the way you know I’ll enjoy discussing books this way.

I think I would like to post it on a computer because my hands would be hurting because I have been writing a lot. And I fell more comfortable doing it on a computer because if I do it on paper someone can write some thing bad on my paper and turn it in.

I think I will enjoy it this way because, it seems so easy and it gives you pictures to look at so, like if you have any trouble reading it you can look at the pictures, reread it or the read and so you can stop and pause your reading to look at the pictures and catch up with your reading!.

I will enjoy this book by discussing it because when you discuss it and ask questions it will be challenging to answer it.

Art to according to Calder was something puzzling. It was like something that gave his mine a new idea to spin around, something that gave him a fresh way of seeing things each he looked at it.

Petra doesn’t care what her classmates thought because she is not offended and an independent. And she doesn’t care what they think of her because she is unoffendable. That’s why Petra doesn’t care what her classmates think of her.

I think that Petra did not care because the lady that she saw said to not care. I know how you feel. Plus Denise was saying that Petra’s art was stupid. That is why I think Petra did not care what her classmates thought.

Petra dose not care what her classmates think because they made fun of her because she thought a book was a piece of art.

Calder uses the pentominos because it helps him figure things out. Like he has the feeling they talk to him so he will grab one, and a word will pop into his head.

  22. tsellers Said,

Calder used pentominoes because it helps him figures out the “V” for Vermeer and “F” for Fort.

  23. lchildress Said,

    October 7, 2009 @ 8:41 am

I think that Calder uses them because they help him figure out things. They also talk to him. That is why Calder uses pentominoes.

  24. lchildress Said,

Calder felt that it was weird. He felt this way because he wished that he never hared of Fort or Vermeer.

  25. jbennett Said,

    October 14, 2009 @ 8:47 am

Calder felt that he had never heard of fort and Vermeer and he felt that they fit together.

  26. janelledavis Said,

Calder felt like he had fallen into a puzzle and couldn’t get out because Petra was wearing a red hat against the gray November sky.
